Kang Yong Loh received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 2017, where he worked with Prof. Yi Lu to develop near-infrared tools for imaging metal ions in living systems. He then spent a gap year in the laboratory of Prof. Xiaogang Liu at the National University of Singapore studying lanthanide-based photothermal and photoacoustic systems. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemistry and the ChEM-H Institute at Stanford University, co-advised by Karl Deisseroth and Carolyn R. Bertozzi. His research focuses on developing chemical and protein-based tools to probe and manipulate biological systems. He was also a Bio-IT Fellow with 8VC.
