Purav Gupta is an undergraduate studying Computational Biology at the University of Toronto, focused on merging AI with synthetic biology. As lead of the 2026 iGEM Toronto team, he is building an AI-guided platform that leverages planetary-scale data via the Logan index to engineer plastic-degrading enzymes. He plans to spin this full-stack biodegradation technology into a startup tackling global microplastic pollution. His bio-ML research includes co-authoring the "BioReason" paper, presented at NeurIPS 2025. This summer, Purav joins Tahoe Therapeutics as a Machine Learning Research Intern. Ultimately, he is driven by the vision of utilizing synthetic biology to unlock scalable, real-world solutions for humanity's most pressing challenges.
