Nathan Wolfe is a Programme Director at the Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA UK). He’s also a Visiting Scholar in the Stanford University Department of Bioengineering, based in the Quake Lab and serves as an advisor to early and mid stage companies.Until 2008 he was a tenured professor at UCLA and the recipient of an NIH Director’s Pioneer Award. After which he was the founding CEO & Chair of Metabiota, a pioneering infectious disease data analytics company. Metabiota helped Fortune 500 companies and government agencies throughout the world manage biological threats. As CEO he saw the company through growth to over 50 technical team members and $15M in revenue. The company was named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum in 2021 and was acquired by Ginkgo Bioworks in 2022.As a research scientist he has helped secure over $150M in research funding, and co-authored more than 100 scientific publications. His research has been featured on the covers of Wired and National Geographic Magazine and his critically acclaimed book, “The Viral Storm”, was published in six languages and shortlisted in 2012 for the Royal Society’s Winton Prize.He has been honored as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (2010-2015) and National Geographic Emerging Explorer (2009) and served on DARPA’s Defense Sciences Research Council (2008-2011). In 2010 he was profiled in The New Yorker and in 2011 he was named as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.
