Bill Tai has been funding startups as a VC since 1991, with 23 of his seed or early-stage investments growing into publicly listed companies. He was the first seed backer of Zoom and helped catalyze the founding of Canva, now two of the world’s leading unicorns. His portfolio also includes Lineage Logistics, Dapper Labs, Bitfury, Color Genomics, HUT8 Mining, SafetyCulture, and Treasure Data.

He has served as Founding Chairman of HUT8 Corp (NASDAQ: HUT), Co-founder and Chairman of Treasure Data (acquired by SoftBank), Founding Chairman of IPInfusion, and Founding CEO/Chair of iAsiaWorks (IPO via Goldman Sachs & Morgan Stanley).

Bill holds a BSEE with honors from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Harvard, where he sits on the Dean’s Board of Advisors. He is also Chairman of ACTAI Global, a community driving tech-based environmental conservation and entrepreneurship.

Drug discovery often measures biology at the cell level while interventions work at the tissue, organ, or whole-patient scale. This mismatch can make accurate cell-level predictions irrelevant in the clinic. This session dives into strategies to bridge that gap: multiscale modeling that nests single-cell dynamics within organ-level simulations, spatial transcriptomics that preserve context, and surrogate models that translate cell-level outputs into clinical biomarkers.
