Corteva Agriscience
Integrated Discovery & Bioprocess Leader
Josh joined Corteva Agriscience at the beginning of its journey as a stand-alone, pure-play agricultural company. He currently leads the Integrated Discovery & Bioprocess organization. His team is responsible for discovering small molecule and microbial technologies using an industry-leading natural products and fermentation platform, as well as target-based design strategies that leverage a rapidly expanding computational toolkit. After obtaining his doctorate in organic chemistry from UC Berkeley, Josh was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Plant Gene Expression Center prior to launching his career at Mendel Biotechnology where he held a number of scientific leadership positions. When Mendel was acquired in 2014, Josh held the role of VP R&D for Koch Biological Solutions before joining Corteva. Josh is a passionate leader of cross-disciplinary teams that strive to turn new technologies into sustainable products for farmers.

From Cells to Patients: Solving the Scale Mismatch in Virtual Biology
Drug discovery often measures biology at the cell level while interventions work at the tissue, organ, or whole-patient scale. This mismatch can make accurate cell-level predictions irrelevant in the clinic. This session dives into strategies to bridge that gap: multiscale modeling that nests single-cell dynamics within organ-level simulations, spatial transcriptomics that preserve context, and surrogate models that translate cell-level outputs into clinical biomarkers. Speakers will ask: how do we ensure virtual biology reflects not just what cells do in isolation, but how biology behaves in the real complexity of patients?
